Monthly program meetings give you a chance to hear discussions about timely topics from the thought leaders and practitioners who represent the future of the profession, and to share in dinner with fellow professionals.
Please join the Northeast Ohio STC community for our January event. We are thrilled to have Mary Ryba Knepper present her topic - How Personality Dimensions Effect Negotiating Style and Tone. This will be a joint event with NEOPMI (Northeast Ohio Project Management Institute), and will be at Parker Hannifin in Mayfield Heights.
PLEASE NOTE: This meeting will be presented live via LiveMeeting. Attendees will need to come to Parker to attend the LiveMeeting.
How Personality Dimensions Effect Negotiating Style and Tone
This presentation builds on the idea that business thrives when relationships are healthy. Because communication creates and confirms relationships, professional people can craft communication—for purposes of this discussion, their e-mail—to nurture relationships so that the wheels of enterprise turn smoothly and productively.
Mary Knepper will illustrate, through presentation and audience participation, how tone in e-mail is a direct function of word choice, structure, and content emphasis. The writer’s negotiating style, which defaults from personality type, is something everyone has from birth.
Mary will share some e-mail examples that will help participants discover how tone derives from personality and negotiating style. She will offer two quick self-analyses, one on personality type and the other on negotiating style. In addition, she will offer a system or “heuristic method” for creating e-mail that always wins the day, and preempts personality and mood.
Mary encourages participants to share an e-mail of their own for the program. This should be an e-mail that made them go “hmmm” – it could be an e-mail from during the work day, or one that you saved from the past. Since Mary will be delivering this presentation live and offsite from Tennessee, you can send your e-mail sample to Janean Voss at email@example.com, and she will get all samples to Mary prior to January 10th. Please convert any e-mails that you send to a .PDF for ease of handling. Mary will do a quick analysis of select e-mails to reinforce the easy system we reviewed for staying collaborative and nurturing strong business relationships. If she does not have time to get to all of the e-mails, you can reach her after the session to discuss your individual e-mail.
