We are delighted to announce a scholarship we are offering to a deserving student or technical communication practitioner.We offer this scholarship to encourage local academic excellence, provide the profession with educated communicators, and promote greater awareness of and participation in STC.
Who can apply?
Undergraduate, graduate, or community college students pursuing degrees or certificates in technical or scientific communication or closely related fields from accredited Ohio institutions are eligible to apply.
Technical communication practitioners seeking financial assistance to support recognized professional development or certification opportunities are also welcome to apply.
Applicants must be:
- Pursuing a technical communication-related degree or certificate at an accredited Ohio educational institution
- Be a permanent Ohio resident pursuing a technical communication-related degree or certificate at any accredited U.S. educational institution
- Be a permanent Ohio resident who is a technical communication practitioner.
What is the scholarship’s value?
A total of $500 will be awarded for educational purposes to either of the following:
- One deserving Ohio graduate, undergraduate, community college, or certificate student
- One or more technical communication practitioners seeking financial assistance for recognized professional development or certification opportunities.
How will applicants be evaluated?
Applicants will be evaluated based on their potential to contribute to the profession following attainment of their degree, certificate, or specified professional development opportunity.
What are the important dates?
- February 1, 2014—official launch of scholarship
- June 2, 2014—scholarship application submission deadline—postmark date
When will a winner be notified?
The winner will be notified by July 1, 2014.

2013 Scholarship Update
Our 2013 scholarship recipient is Sarah Perrine from Youngstown State University.
Sarah Perrine recently completed her junior year at Youngstown State University and is pursuing dual degrees in professional writing and editing and environmental studies. In addition to her coursework in the University Honors Program, Sarah is active with the Youngstown Environmental Studies Society, the Campus Beautification Working Group, and the local Grey to Green Festival. Last summer, she interned as a grant writer with the Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District. She also donates times to the Brookfield Positive Steps After-School Program. In her application, Sarah demonstrated a dedication to her technical communication studies, a passion for sustainability and environmental awareness, and a true potential to be a leader in the field.
