April 11, 2005

APRIL is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.
Winter kept us warm, covering
Earth in forgetful snow, feeding
A little life with dried tubers.

--- T.S. Eliot. The Waste Land.

I always reread The Waste Land in April, but have yet to share Eliot's sense of despondency coming out of a long winter! This year spring is especially welcome in my backyard, and the crocuses look suspiciously joyful, as if they don't share his sentiments either.

I hope you all survived our little relapse into winter and have been able to enjoy the warm days!

Now on to NEO STC news!
